Ota Court sentences man to four years for stealing electrical wires
An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State has sentenced 38-year-old Sodiq Mohammed to four years in prison for breaking into a house and stealing electrical wires valued at N650,000.
The convict, who has no fixed address, was found guilty of a four-count charge, including burglary, stealing, malicious damage, and conspiracy.
Magistrate Mrs. O.O. Fadairo, who handed down the sentence on Monday, also provided an alternative option of paying an N80,000 fine.
In addition to the prison term or fine, Fadairo ordered Mohammed to restitute N750,000 to the complainant, Ukiwa Esther, the owner of the house.
Prosecution counsel, Insp. E.O. Adaraloye, explained that Mohammed, alongside accomplices still at large, committed the crimes on March 29 at about 9:00 a.m. in Ota.

The convict conspired with his accomplice to break into Esther’s home, where they stole the electrical wires and caused damage to the ceiling while attempting to break in.
The offences contravene Sections 390(9), 413, 451, and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
