Benue Police confirm release of abducted university students
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of three female students who were abducted from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
The students were kidnapped on February 25, 2025, while returning from a night study session on campus, sparking concerns over security within the university community.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the spokesperson for the command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the students’ release, though details surrounding their freedom remain unclear.

The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Hassan Yabanet, expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team from Abuja, alongside other security agencies in Benue, for their dedication to securing the safe return of the students.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the perpetrators of the abduction.
The police reiterated their commitment to enhancing security within the state and ensuring that justice is served.
While the circumstances of the students’ release have not been fully disclosed, their return brings relief to their families and the university community.
The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Nigeria, emphasizing the need for heightened measures to protect students and residents from criminal activities.
