Police have confirmed the tragic death of a 48-year-old King’s College teacher, Mr. Ezekiel Akano whose lifeless body was found inside one of the school’s classrooms on Saturday evening.
National Daily gathered that Mr. Akano, who hailed from Oyo State and was a long-serving educator at the prestigious federal government-owned institution, was discovered by a fellow staff member around 6:30 p.m.
His body was reportedly found slumped in a classroom, raising immediate alarm within the school premises.
Confirming the incident, a senior police source at the Lagos Island Divisional Police Headquarters disclosed that the matter was reported by the school’s Vice Principal, Mr. Oguniyi Ayodele, shortly after the discovery.
A team of detectives was promptly dispatched to the scene to secure the area and conduct a preliminary investigation.
“Our officers documented the scene thoroughly,” the source said. “Photographs were taken, and the deceased was examined. No physical injuries or signs of struggle were observed on his body.”

The remains of Mr. Akano were transported to Lagos Island General Hospital, Odan, where a medical team officially pronounced him dead on arrival. Hospital sources corroborated the police report, stating that the teacher was brought in unresponsive, with no visible signs of trauma.
A medical doctor at the hospital, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, hinted that cardiac arrest is a likely cause of death.
“He was said to be clutching his chest when found, which is often a sign of cardiac distress,” the doctor explained. “However, we have initiated a full autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the King’s College community, but attempts by our correspondent to speak with school authorities were unsuccessful.
Security personnel at the school gate redirected all media inquiries to the police division handling the case.
Mr. Akano’s untimely death has left both students and staff in mourning, with several describing him as a dedicated and passionate educator known for his humility and discipline.
While the police have not ruled out natural causes, the autopsy results are expected to provide clarity in the coming days.
