Djimon Hounsou in court battle with ex-partner over custody of children

Beninese-American actor has reportedly filed a custody and support case against his former partner, , over the care of their two children.

According to reports by TMZ, court documents filed in late January show that Hounsou is seeking joint legal and physical custody of their son, born in 2022, and daughter, born in 2023.

Simpson has reportedly agreed to joint legal custody but is requesting primary physical custody of the children. She allegedly cited her work schedule and travel commitments as reasons she should remain the children’s main caregiver.

She is also asking the court to grant financial support, claiming the separation has had a “significant impact” on her finances.

The legal dispute follows an incident that reportedly occurred in December in , where Hounsou allegedly contacted police after accusing Simpson of striking him during an argument at his home.

Authorities reportedly arrested Simpson on charges including simple assault and obstruction after investigators claimed she provided false information to officers.

Following the incident, Simpson reportedly obtained a temporary restraining order against the actor before later withdrawing it after both parties reached an agreement.

The custody matter is now expected to proceed in a Georgia family court, with both sides likely to appear before a judge in the coming weeks.

Neither Hounsou nor Simpson has publicly commented on the ongoing case.
