Delta Police arrest 2 suspected drug dealers, recover tramadol, codeine
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected drug dealers in Sapele, Delta State, during a raid that led to the recovery of large quantities of suspected illicit substances, including tramadol and codeine.
The suspects, identified as Onyedikachi, 40, and Edna Karaki, 36, were apprehended by officers attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit during an intelligence-led operation carried out in the Amukpe area of Sapele Local Government Area.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was conducted in the early hours of May 22 following credible intelligence on alleged drug trafficking activities in the area.
Police said a search of the suspects’ hideout led to the recovery of several controlled and suspected harmful substances, including tramadol, CSC codeine, Molly, Swinol, Vagadine, Red Boy, Zaza, and Taker.
Edafe stated that preliminary investigations indicated the suspects were allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of illicit drugs within the community. He added that both suspects reportedly made confessional statements during interrogation.
The police spokesperson noted that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to identify other individuals linked to the alleged drug distribution network.
Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for the successful operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and related crimes across the state.
The police said the crackdown forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to curb substance abuse and criminal activities in Delta communities.
