Breaking: Chief of Staff to APC national chairman, Dawaki, dumps party, joins Obi at NDC
Former Chief of Staff to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Congress, Mustapha Bala Dawaki, has defected to the opposition Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) following his loss of the APC ticket for the 2027 elections.
Dawaki, a former member of the House of Representatives from Kano State, reportedly left the ruling party just one week after he failed to secure the APC nomination after a consensus arrangement within the party structure.
His defection was confirmed on Monday by Saifullahi Hassan, a media aide to Kano political leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who said the move was formalised at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano.

Hassan announced the development on social media, stating that Dawaki had been officially received into the NDC fold at the Kwankwaso Miller Rose residence.
“Today, Leader Kwankwaso welcomed Mustapha Bala Dawaki, who used to be the Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, to the NDC Kwankwasiyya,” Hassan wrote in a Facebook post.
The development comes at a sensitive time for the NDC as the party continues internal consultations over the selection of candidates for various elective positions in Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dawaki’s next political move remains uncertain, as it is yet to be confirmed whether he will automatically be granted a ticket to contest under the NDC platform.
