Abia APC Primaries: Ex-minister Henry Ikoh petitions appeal committee over governorship result
The former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Chief Henry Ikoh, has formally lodged a petition with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee, challenging the outcome of the party’s governorship primary in Abia State.
Ikoh is contesting the declaration of Chief Eric Opiah as the winner of the primary election, describing the process that produced the result as unacceptable and calling for a review of the exercise.
In the protest letter submitted to the committee, the former minister urged party leaders to thoroughly examine alleged irregularities that, according to him, affected the credibility of the primary election.
The Abia APC governorship primary had earlier produced Opiah as the party’s flag bearer for the forthcoming election cycle, but the result has since generated internal disagreements within the party.
Ikoh’s petition adds to growing tensions within the Abia APC, as stakeholders await the decision of the appeal committee on whether the outcome of the primary will be upheld or overturned.
The party is yet to issue an official response to the petition.
