Gunfire erupts as suspected hoodlums attack Adeleke’s convoy in Osogbo
Tension reportedly gripped Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday after suspected hoodlums opened fire on the convoy of Governor Ademola Adeleke shortly after he visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.
The incident occurred as the governor’s convoy was leaving the palace, with the attackers reportedly targeting vehicles in the entourage.
Sources said security operatives attached to the governor immediately responded to the attack, engaging the assailants and forcing them to retreat from the area.

The swift intervention of the security personnel reportedly prevented the situation from escalating, while Adeleke and other members of his convoy were safely moved away from the scene.
The gunfire caused panic in parts of the city, with residents and motorists reportedly scrambling for safety as security operatives took control of the area.
The incident comes amid heightened political activities in Osun State, where tensions have continued to rise over political developments and competing interests.
As of the time of filing this report, details about the identity of the attackers, their motive and the circumstances leading to the attack remained unclear.
It was also not immediately established whether anyone was killed or injured, or whether security agencies had made any arrests in connection with the incident.
Security agencies are expected to issue an official statement providing details of the incident and the steps being taken to identify and apprehend those responsible.
