Abure invited LP State Chairmen to Benin, fed them with lies – Apapa
The self-proclaimed national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Lamidi Apapa, has alleged that the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, invited the LP 36 State Chairmen to Benin City, Edo State, where he got a court order, adding that he fed them with lies; he did not tell them what happened in Abuja, where the court restrained him from parading himself as LP national chairman.
Apapa, speaking on Channels Television monitored by National Daily form Lagos, insisted that he is the national chairman of the Labour Party. He said that 7 (including himself) of the 18 members of the LP National Working Committee (NWC) voted for him to become acting national chairman of the party. According to Apapa, “of the 18 NWC members, 1 member died, 2 were suspended, 4 were sacked by the court; remaining 11 members and 6 voted me to be acting chairman.”
Apapa was LP deputy national chairman (south), before he declared himself national chairman in the course of legal tussles in the party.
Apapa dismissed the press statement of the 36 LP state chairmen, denouncing his leadership and passing a vote of confidence on Abure as LP National Chairman, and thereafter, urged Abure to convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee, as not representing the party decision.
Apapa also dismissed insinuations that he is being funded to destabilise the LP, saying he has been NUPEND Chairman in Oyo State, and had held other union leadership positions in the state.
He said that he has the support of the Obidient movement, saying that the Obidients are Nigerians supporting LP.
According to Apapa, “I don’t believe the Obidient movement are not with me. The Obidients are Nigerians.”
