Nollywood actress Cossy Ojiakor has shared videos showing her home submerged after heavy rainfall triggered widespread flooding across parts of Lagos on Sunday.

The downpour, which began in the Ajah area in the morning, left several roads waterlogged, disrupting vehicular movement, causing severe traffic congestion and leaving many motorists stranded.

Communities including Gbagada also recorded significant flooding, with several vehicles breaking down after driving through submerged roads, while others were forced to stop to inspect possible damage.

Among those affected was Ojiakor, who revealed that floodwaters entered her residence, forcing neighbours to help salvage some of her belongings.

Sharing videos from her flooded apartment, the actress disclosed that she had only recently recovered from ankle surgery.

“I had ankle hardware removal surgery last month. I dreaded the floods. My neighbours helped me a lot. But now I’m healed and I no longer use crutches. Had to pack spoilt furniture on top of my car,” she wrote.

In another post, Ojiakor lamented that it was the first time floodwaters had entered her home in years.

“This is my first flood experience in years. Water has never entered my home. If the canal was not removed, water would not enter my home. Now I don’t like the sound of Calabar Express Road. Our transformer is flooded, so electricity has been disconnected,” she added.

The latest flooding comes nearly a year after the Lagos State Government apologised to residents over widespread flooding caused by heavy rainfall across several parts of the state in July 2025.

The earlier incident affected communities including Eredo, Bojije, Epe, Sangotedo, Ibeju-Lekki, Awoyaya, Labora, Abijo, Iyana-Oworo, Agege, Ijegun-Isheri, Osun and Gbagada. The floods disrupted traffic and led to the collapse of a two-storey building in Mushin.

Following the incident, some residents criticised the government over flood management in the coastal city. However, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, maintained that the flooding was largely caused by natural factors rather than poor planning.
