Ajaero dares police, declines invitation as Amnesty International reacts
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero has declined an invitation from the Nigeria Police Force.
Ajaero’s lawyers, Falana and Falana Chambers, informed the Inspector General of Police that the invitation, received late, conflicts with prior commitments.
The Police had summoned Ajaero over allegations including criminal conspiracy and terrorism financing.
Ajaero explained that he turned down the invitation due to other engagements.
However, a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police by Ajaero’s lawyers said the invitation came late.
Parts of the letter read, “We are solicitors to the Nigeria Labour Congress and its President, Joe Ajaero, on whose behalf we write this letter in respect of the above subject matter.

“We have the instructions of Ajaero to inform you that he is unable to honour your invitation on Tuesday, August 20 in view of the fact that your invitation letter was received by him yesterday.
“He has an engagement that had been fixed before the receipt of the invitation letter.”
Meanwhile, Amnesty International Nigeria has knocked the police over the invitation, describing it as an attempt to cripple the union.
The organisation, in a statement signed by its Director, Isa Sanusi, on Tuesday, insisted that the fresh allegations of terrorism financing by the Nigerian authorities against Ajaero and its leaders is an attempt to intimidate the unionists.
