APC halts State congress in Oyo over manipulations
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) national leadership on Saturday halted the State Congress in Oyo State, citing forgery of documents deployed for the congress and other irregularities. APC stakeholders in Oyo were mandated to report at the party national secretariat in Abuja for further briefing.
The Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, ordered the suspension of the state congress in Oyo.
The APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee chairman in a statement by the National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John James Akpanudoedehe, on Saturday morning, emphasized that the suspension became necessary to ensure credibility of the process leading to the emergence of new party leaders in the state.
The statement cautioned that the leadership Governor Mai Mala Buni of the APC will not tolerate any act of indiscipline and fraudulent manipulation of election process of any kind.
“It has become necessary to suspend the ongoing State Congress exercise in Oyo State due to information regarding the forging of documents meant to conduct this exercise.
“The national chairman has, however, ordered the Oyo State Congress Committee to return to the National Secretariat for further briefing.”
The APC assured all party members of level a playing ground, as well as at all times.
