Bandits abduct Kwara monarch, residents in fresh attack on Igbesi community
Armed bandits have invaded Igbesi community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting the traditional ruler and several residents.
The attack occurred at about 11 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when the gunmen reportedly stormed the community in Oke-Onigbin town, Kwara South.
A local source said the attackers abducted the traditional ruler, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi land, and took him to an undisclosed location.
Several other residents were also reportedly taken away during the attack.
The latest incident has heightened security concerns in Kwara State, coming amid reports of multiple kidnapping attacks in different parts of the state within the past 24 hours.

The coordinated pattern of attacks has raised fresh concerns about the ability of criminal groups to operate across communities, particularly in rural areas.
Igbesi is a community within Oke-Onigbin town in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of people abducted remained unknown, while the whereabouts of the monarch and other victims had yet to be established.
Security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of press time.
