Bandits kill village head, soldier, kidnap women in Katsina
Bandits in fresh operations from the forest areas of Faskari, one of the 13 Frontline Local Government Areas of Katsina, killed a soldier, the village head of Badole and kidnapped several women.
The bandits were said to have struck at about 10.15pm on Thursday, shooting sporadically and injuring several persons.
The Commandant of the Nigeria vigilante group in Katsina State, Salisu Rabo, disclosed that the late soldier was killed during an exchange of gunfire with the bandits, in attempt to repel the attack.
Rabo said that it took the combined efforts of the vigilante members in the village with other security agencies to overwhelm the bandits and restore peace in the community.
Rabo said that efforts are on to rescue the kidnapped victims.
Bandits in another operation from the forest area of Safana Local Government Area, were said to have on the same day, kidnapped the village head of Ummadau, who was on his way from the governorship campaign rally of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The village head was, however, said to have been rescued and reunited with his kinsmen.
