Bauchi 2023: Gov. Mohammed issues April 8 ultimatum to appointees, civil servants aspiring to contest elections to resign
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has issued an ultimatum to all political appointees and public servants in the state aspiring to contest for political offices in the 2023 general elections to send in their letters of resignation to the office of the Secretary to the State Government on or before Friday, 8th April 2022.
The governor in a statement by his Special Adviser On Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, indicated that the directive aligns with the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, which provides that “political appointees, and other public servants aspiring for political offices, in the 2023 General Elections, are to resign their appointments, 30 days before the conduct of Primary Elections,” in respect of the specific posts they are aspiring for.
The governor also ordered all Commissioners intending to contest for elections to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries, while other political office holders, should accordingly, hand over Government properties in their possessions, to the Permanent Secretary, General Services, Office of the Head of the Civil Service, Bauchi State Government.
Meanwhile, that section of the amended electoral act is being contested in the court of law by the attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN.
