Benue 2023: Speaker Titus Uba wins PDP ticket
Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon, Titus Uba, on Wednesday defeated other aspirants to win the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the primary election.
Uba, at the PDP state congress held at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, had 731 votes to defeat Deputy Governor Benson Abounu, who had 81 votes.
The Speaker, thanking the delegates and state PDP leadership for making him the PDP flag bearer in Benue, appealed for unity and cooperation among party stakeholders to ensure victory in the 2023 governorship election.
Rt Hon Uba had expressed: “One of the greatest days in my life is today and I want to give this to the delegates of our great party who have made the moment what it is now and who have come together to give me the opportunity to fly the flag of PDP in 2023.
“Responsibility they say is collective. Responsibility to our party is for us to put our heads together and move this state forward. Your Excellency, I am overwhelmed, my speech is filled with joy that I cannot express now.”
Deputy Governor Abounu, not protesting the result of the primary, attributed the entire process to God. He said that the party has spoken, and he will comply with the party’s decision.
According to the deputy governor, “The party authority has spoken and the party authority has spoken well – loud and clear and that is how the tide goes.
“All I can say is that only God can make it possible for somebody like me who is a creation of God to be governor of Benue State.”
