Buhari commissions Dangote’s $2.5bn Fertilizer Plant in Lagos
President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to commission the Dangote Fertilizer Plant of about $2.5 billion in Lagos on Tuesday.
It was gathered that the official opening of the plant is scheduled to commence at 10.00am.
Also, expected in attendance are Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Mahmoud’s Abubakar; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo; and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
The Dangote group disclosed that the plant is Africa’s largest granulated urea fertilizer complex; sited on land mass of 500 hectares in Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos.
The plant has installed production capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum of urea fertilizer in phase 1. Nigeria fertilizer requirement is estimated to be about five to seven million metric tonnes per annum of fertilizer. But the current supply rate is out at 1.5 million metric tonnes.
After the commissioning of the fertilizer plant, President Buhari and other state officials are further expected to have an inspection tour of the 650,000 crude oil refinery and 900,000 polypropylene plant, including the Lekki Deep Sea Port.
