Buhari extends tenure of Service Chiefs
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the extension of the tenure of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar; and the Chief of Naval Staff. Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas.
The approval was confirmed by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, who in a statement by his Public Relations Officer, Colonel Tukur Gusau,on Monday disclosed that the President extended the tenures “having carefully reviewed the ongoing military operations across the country.”
The duration of the extension was not specified and the Senate is yet to be communicated about the tenure extension of the various service chiefs. Thus, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar and Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, will continue in office indefinitely.
