Canada accuses India of an assassination on its soil
Canada has accused India of carrying out an assassination on its soil, leading to a diplomatic crisis between the two countries.
The Canadian government alleges that Indian intelligence agents were involved in the killing of Ripudaman Singh Malik, a Sikh activist who was acquitted of the 1985 Air India bombing. Malik was shot and killed in Surrey, British Columbia, on October 14, 2022.
The Indian government has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless and unfounded.”
The diplomatic crisis between Canada and India has escalated in recent weeks, with both countries expelling diplomats.
On September 15, 2023, Canada announced that it was expelling two Indian diplomats for their alleged involvement in Malik’s assassination. India responded by expelling two Canadian diplomats on September 16, 2023.

The diplomatic crisis between Canada and India has raised concerns about the relationship between the two countries. Canada and India have close economic and cultural ties, but the recent diplomatic spat has strained relations between the two countries.
It is unclear how the diplomatic crisis will be resolved. However, it is clear that the relationship between Canada and India has been damaged by the recent accusations and expulsions.
The assassination of Ripudaman Singh Malik has also had a significant impact on the Sikh community in Canada. Many Sikhs in Canada feel that Malik was targeted because of his faith and his activism.
The Canadian government has pledged to investigate Malik’s assassination thoroughly and to bring the perpetrators to justice. However, it is unclear how long the investigation will take.
