“Chelsea needs a miracle” — Petit backs Man City ahead of FA Cup final
Former France international Emmanuel Petit has cast doubt on Chelsea FC’s chances of overcoming Manchester City in this weekend’s FA Cup final, insisting only “a miracle” can secure victory for the Blues.
Speaking to BoyleSports ahead of the showpiece clash, Petit delivered a blunt assessment of Chelsea’s recent performances, questioning their consistency, mentality, and cutting edge in front of goal.
While acknowledging the unpredictability of cup finals, Petit maintained that the gulf in quality between the two sides is significant.
“In a single game, a final, anything can happen,” he said. “City won at Chelsea recently, and we saw only one team on the pitch.”
He went further, suggesting that Chelsea’s struggles this season have made them vulnerable against almost any opponent.
“The question actually is, who cannot beat Chelsea? It seems that every single team can beat Chelsea. So I don’t see why City, the way they play, the way they control the game, their players, the atmosphere, the environment — it’s totally different to Chelsea.”
Petit expressed frustration over what he perceives as Chelsea’s failure to respond positively during difficult moments this season.
“We’ve been expecting them so many times. I’ve been frustrated because I was expecting a proud reaction on the pitch, all together,” he said.

“Forget about what you think or what you feel. Just do what you’ve been paid for. And they failed. All of them, they failed for weeks now.”
The former midfielder argued that Chelsea’s lack of clinical finishing has compounded their problems, particularly in high-pressure fixtures where chances must be taken.
In contrast, Petit praised Manchester City’s composure and efficiency in decisive moments, describing them as “ruthless” in front of goal.
City’s structured approach, ball control, and experience in major finals have positioned them as clear favourites in many pundits’ eyes.
“I will tell you it won’t happen because City are a better team in every way,” Petit concluded, predicting a tough outing for Chelsea.
The FA Cup final presents Chelsea with an opportunity to salvage pride and potentially secure silverware in what has been an inconsistent campaign. For Manchester City, the clash represents another chance to underline their domestic dominance and add to their trophy haul.
Football analysts note that while form and momentum favour City, the unpredictable nature of cup finals means Chelsea cannot be entirely written off.
However, as Petit’s remarks suggest, the Blues may need a dramatic turnaround in performance and mentality to upset a Manchester City side widely regarded as one of Europe’s most complete teams.
