As the constitution amendment plenary is ongoing at the National Assembly, Here are some of the major clauses that have been passed/rejected so far.
The Senate rejected the clause seeking to make Value Added Tax an item on the Executive Legislative List.
The Bill seeks to Alter Part I of the Second Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to include Value Added Tax on the Exclusive Legislative List; and for Related Matters.
The Senate also rejected the clause creating additional seats for Women in the national assembly. The Bill seeks to alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Provide for Special Seat for Women in the National and State Houses of Assembly; & for Related Matters.

It also rejected the clause to grant life pension for Presiding Officers of the National Assembly.
The controversial bill seeks to alter the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to provide pension for Presiding Officers of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly; and for related matters.
Similarly, the majority of Senators voted against the bill seeking to alter the constitution to legalise Virtual Court Proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Senate granted States the powers to generate electricity.
The Bill seeks to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to allow States Generate, Transmit and Distribute Electricity in Area covered by the National Grid; and for Related Matters.
It also passed the clause granting financial autonomy to state legislatures and judiciary.
The Act seeks to alter the Constitution of the Fed Rep of Nigeria, 1999 to provide for the Financial Independence of State Houses of Assembly and State Judiciary; & for related matters.
Similarly, the Senate passed a clause to change the names of some local government areas.
The Senate passed the Bill to change the names of Afikpo North and Afikpo South Local Government Areas; Kunchi Local Government Area of Kano State. Atisbo Local Government Area of oyo.
Meanwhile, The Barikin Ladi local government Area name change failed as 67 senators voted in support while 26 voted against.
The Senate also passed Bill number 58 which seeks to allow independent candidates to contest for elective positions.
The Upper Chamber however threw out a bill seeking to allow Nigerians in Diaspora to vote during elections.
However, a Bill which seeks to provide for the election of Mayor for the Federal Capital Territory was rejected by lawmakers with 62 YES votes.
