Coronavirus survival rate increases in Nigeria
The survival rate of coronavirus in Nigeria has been on the increase in the past one week. Though, new cases are still being detected by the monitoring agencies and government institutions, the earlier phobia and myth that COVID 19 has no cure is becoming demystified in Nigeria. The number of persons who tested positive, quarantined, treated, later tested negative and discharged from isolation centres has been on the rise. Apparently, that fear of curability or death has diminished.
Statics as at Friday shows that the total confirmed cases in Nigeria has risen to 190, while discharged patients has also risen to 20, and death remains at 2 patients.
Meanwhile, global statistics shows that coronavirus has infested over one million people around the world with rising incidence of death in Europe and America.
However, several states in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have been lockdown on the order of President Muhammadu Buhari and governors. But as the number of confirmed cases increases, the chances of survival also increase.
The major challenge governments at all levels may be facing is that most people who came back to Nigeria from overseas during the coronavirus spread in Europe and America are not presenting themselves for test or isolation. Many of them have gone into self-isolation and treatment secretly.
Ion any case, incidence of first carriers, that is those who imported from overseas into Nigeria, has minimised, while the existing cases are more of secondary carriers, that is transmissions or infections within the country. More so, the degree of severance has also dropped.
