Court grants Abba Kyari bail after 27 months in jail
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court Abuja has granted the former Commander of the Force Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, temporarily bail for two weeks on passionate grounds, to go bury his mother.
Kyari was granted bail to the tune of N50 million and a surety in like sum. The bail comes after he spent cumulative 27 months in detention. Kyari is to deposit his travel passport with the court and shall always report to any formation of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) nearest to him within the period the bail was granted for.
The court subsequently set Friday, May 31 for determination of his bail application. Kyari is facing trial for drug-related charges filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. Recall that former IRT boss was arrested on February 14, 2022, by the NDLEA.
He lost his mother, Mama Yachilla Kyari, in the early hours of Sunday, May 5, 2024. She’s survived by 10 children, including Abba Kyari, who is the eldest son.
