Court remands two over alleged armed robbery
An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded Salami Fatai, 25 and Tope Adesiyan, 25, over alleged armed robbery.
The Prosecutor, ASP Joseph Adebayo told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Nov 3, 2022 around 1:30 a.m. at Alawusa Area, Edunabon, in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun.
Adebayo said that the defendants conspired together to commit felony to wit: Armed Robbery.
He added that the defendants, armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Oyeniran Titus of five mobile phones.
According to him, the defendants stole one Bajaj Boxer Motorcycle with cash sum of N565,000 and transferred sum of N5 million from his bank account.
The Prosecutor stated further that the offence was contrary to the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol 14, Laws of Federation, 2004.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs A. O. Famuyide, did not take the plea of the defendants, saying that her court lacked jurisdiction to try the armed robbery case.
She ordered for the remand of the defendants in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Custody, pending the legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
The case was adjourned until Jan 9, 2023.
