Court sentences Man, 30, to one month service for damaging PDP billboard in Benue
A Chief Magistrate Court in Makurdi, Benue State, on Tuesday convicted a 30-year-old man, Mister Ternenge Peter, residing in the Wurukum environ of Makurdi, sentencing him to one month community service for damaging a billboard mounted by the Peoples Democratic Party, at Wurukum roundabout.
The trial Magistrate, Mrs. Kadoon Gbasha, cautioned that if the convict defaults in one month community service, the judgement will lead to two months imprisonment.
Magistrate Gbasha ordered that the community service will be done at the court premises for 30 working days between 9.00am and 2.00pm daily under strict supervision.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Kuegh Abugh, had informed the court that the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, and the Chairman of the Task Force on Illegal Motor Parks, Bobby Uper, arrested Ternenge Peter while damaging PDP campaign billboard at Wurukum Roundabout, and took him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Makurdi.
He said that the convict attempted to run from the scene when he saw some youths coming towards the location but was caught.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge when the case was mentioned in the court, saying that he committed the offence under the influence of alcohol but on the instruction of an All Progressives Congress (APC) member.
He pleaded for forgiveness.
