Former Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson is set to inaugurate the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Selection Committee as part of the party’s preparations for upcoming primary elections.

The event, scheduled to hold in Abuja on Monday, will also feature a dinner for party aspirants and stakeholders aimed at strengthening unity within the party ahead of its primaries.

According to statements issued by party officials, the committee will oversee the review and selection process for aspirants seeking governorship, National Assembly, and State House of Assembly tickets under the Nigeria Democratic Congress platform.

The committee was constituted following the completion of screening exercises for aspirants across several categories. Party leaders said the initiative is intended to promote transparency, internal democracy, and credible candidate selection ahead of the next general elections.

The selection panel will reportedly be chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, while other members include senior party officials and political stakeholders from across the country.

A statement from the party’s National Publicity Secretary noted that the committee would examine reports submitted by screening panels and make final decisions on cleared aspirants. The party added that the process is designed to ensure the emergence of what it described as “formidable candidates” for elective positions.

Dickson, who recently aligned with the NDC after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has repeatedly described the party as a platform focused on internal democracy and inclusiveness.

The aspirants’ dinner, expected to hold later in the day, will bring together screened candidates and selected stakeholders for consultations and engagement with the party leadership. According to the NDC, the gathering is part of efforts to build cohesion and strengthen relationships among members as the party intensifies preparations for future elections.
