DisCos generate ₦630.93bn as Nigeria’s electricity customers rise to 12.16 million in Q4 2025
Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated a total of ₦630.93 billion in revenue during the fourth quarter of 2025 as the country’s registered electricity consumer base increased to 12.16 million, according to the latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The NBS, in its Q4 2025 Nigeria Electricity Report, said the number of registered electricity customers rose by 1.11 per cent from 12.03 million recorded in the third quarter of 2025.
The report also showed continued progress in the country’s metering programme, with the number of metered customers rising to 6.97 million during the quarter. This represents a 4.58 per cent increase from the 6.66 million metered customers recorded in the preceding quarter and a 12.18 per cent increase compared to 6.21 million in the corresponding period of 2024.
Conversely, the number of customers on estimated billing declined to 5.20 million in Q4 2025 from 5.37 million in the previous quarter, representing a 3.20 per cent decrease. On a year-on-year basis, estimated billing dropped by 26.67 per cent from 7.09 million customers in Q4 2024.
Despite the quarterly increase, the report indicated that the overall number of electricity customers fell by 8.52 per centcompared to the 13.30 million recorded in the fourth quarter of 2024. Industry observers attribute the decline to customer database audits, data verification exercises, and the removal of inactive or duplicate accounts by distribution companies.
The report further revealed that electricity supplied through the national grid increased to 6,627.56 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in Q4 2025, up from 6,158.52 GWh recorded in the previous quarter. The figure also represents a 6.76 per cent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
Higher electricity supply, improved metering, and increased collections contributed to stronger financial performance across the distribution companies. According to the NBS, DisCos generated ₦630.93 billion in revenue during the quarter, representing a 10.64 per cent increase from the ₦570.26 billion recorded in Q3 2025.
On a year-on-year basis, revenue rose by 23.75 per cent from the ₦509.84 billion generated in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The report comes as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) continues to implement reforms aimed at improving service delivery, expanding metering, reducing collection losses, and strengthening investment in electricity distribution infrastructure.
