Don’t use drugs to perform —Dalung
Athletes participating in the fourth edition of the National Youth Games in Ilorin have been charged not to engage in the use of performance enhancing drugs as it would not enhance their career, but rather destroy it prematurely.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung stated this today in Ilorin while declaring open the fourth edition of the National Youth Games in Ilorin.
Barrister Dalung said the games remained a potential nursery for the discovery of future talents that would replace the ageing ones.
The Governor of Kwara State Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed while charging the young athletes to be hard working enjoined them to take their academics seriously.
Governor Ahmed also assured the people of the state of his commitment to sports development.
The Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Sports Mr Olusade Adesola and the Vice Chancellor University of Ilorin Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem said sports remained a strong unifying force in Nigeria saying the partnership between the Federal Ministry of Sports and University of Ilorin is aimed at breaking new grounds in Nigerian sports through the discovery of future talents as well showcasing the abundant talents in the country.
Jude Agbeyeke who is at the games reports that the thirty three contingent at the games had earlier participated in a match past.
