Driver’s licence: FRSC, NIPOST collaborate on enhanced security.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has activated processes for effective collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) to verify, confirm and validate addresses of National Drivers Licence holders.
The FRSC Spokesperson, Mr Bisi Kazeem, said in a statement in Abuja on Monday that the partnership would build robust National Uniform Licensing Scheme and enhance security.
Kazeem said that the collaboration was birthed during a working visit of the Postmaster-General, Dr Ismail Adewusi to the Corps Marshal, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi.
Adewusi, during the visit said that a software solution tagged E-Solution Centre had been created.
According to him, it is to serve as a one-stop shop for all government services, including those that concern issuing of the National Drivers Licence and Number Plates.
“This E-solution and the Address Verification System have been created to support public institutions, including FRSC, to build a robust data management system,” he said.
Responding, Oyeyemi said that due to unverifiable addresses, the corps had over the years found it difficult to track run-away offenders and victims of road traffic crashes.
The corps marshal further said that digitisation of the work processes had in no little degree impacted on the operational activities of the organization.
He noted that the corps would collaborate with NIPOST because technology was needed for most of its products and services.
“Henceforth all National Drivers Licence applicants and holders as well as applicants of vehicle number plates will provide addresses that are verifiable, confirmed and validated before they can be given the products.
“The deployment of technology in the work process like the body cameras for instance, have also been instrumental to the decline in assaults on FRSC personnel,” Oyeyemi said.
