DSS warns Sheik Gumi, others to watch their speech and words closely
The National Security Agency (DSS) has issued a strong warning to the public to exercise caution when commenting on the recent arrest of Desert Herald publisher and Kaduna Train hostage negotiator, Tukur Mamu.
Mumu, who also serves as media adviser to the controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, was arrested last week in Egypt and deported to Nigeria, where he was also arrested by DSS officers.
His home and office were raided and his military uniform, equipment, and “criminal documents” confiscated. In response to Saturday’s development, Sheikh Gummi accused the DSS of being involved in “terrorism”.
Below is a statement sent to his Politics Nigeria on Sunday, signed by Peter Afunanya, PhD who is his PRO at the institution.
“ The Department of State has been watching online chatter, like posts from Twitter and Facebook, regarding the arrest and investigation of Tukur Mam.
“By presenting twisted narratives, the service wants us distracted from the actual issues at hand. . Instead, we’re asking them to be left alone to concentrate on an ongoing investigation, the results of which continue to be of interest. ”
“As a result, the agency will make another announcement in a subsequent post regarding any future updates in the case. The public is therefore urged to refrain from unguarded speech and wait for a trial,” it said.
