Emir Sanusi II’s rising profile troubles Ganduje
The seeming rising profile of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has continued to cause restlessness to Governor Umar Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State. To the consternation of the Kano governor and officials of Kano State government, the dethronement of Sanusi II on Monday which ought to have brought public opprobrium to the former Emir of Kano, has rather attracted, sympathy, solidarity and affection which have been making him more popular in the open society across Nigeria.
The Kano governor and his appointees have been battling with words to convince critics why the state government dethroned Emir Sanusi II from the royal throne of the Kano Emirate. The more they try to defend the dethronement, the more ridiculous they sound, and more unpopular they appear before Nigerians of goodwill.
Moreover, Governor Nasir El-Rufai had between Tuesday and Wednesday tentatively ridiculed Governor Ganduje over his decision to dethrone Emir Sanusi II; offering Emir Muhammad Sanusi II two high profile appointments in Kaduna State in sequence. Governor El-Rufai may have exposed Governor Ganduje’s poor judgment on human value; not appreciating the intellectual prowess of the dethroned Emir Sanusi II.
The height of fret of the Kano governor over the rising profile of the dethroned Emir Sanusi II reflected in the restriction of the former Emir’s freedom, placing him under surveillance and security monitor of 40 policemen at the dethroned Emir’s exile home in Nasarawa State.
Report indicated that the residence of the dethroned Emir Muhammad Sanusi in Awe Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, has been beefed up with armed security personnel to prevent people from access to the resident.
Report further indicated the security operatives also disallow the media form the exile residence. It was also disclosed that traditional rulers who went to visit the dethroned Emir were not allowed access.
The dethroned Emir is, apparently, still being held in captivity but his profile has continued to rise very high across the country since the dethronement, giving the Kano State governor and other state officials sleepless nights, such the they denied banishing the Emir from Kano State into exile.
