Ex-London Police constable arraigned for rape
A former Metropolitan Police constable, Jade Ebanks, 29, on Wednesday, appeared before District Judge Briony Clarke of the Westminster Magistrates’ Court for raping a woman five times in London.
Ebanks is charged with five counts of rape against a yet-to-be-identified woman, an act he allegedly carried out two years before he joined the force.
The suspect, who resigned in April 2023, allegedly carried out the act three times in Greenford, Ealing, and twice in Uxbridge, Hillingdon between March 13, 2018, and August 1, 2020.
Ebanks joined the Metropolitan Police in June 2021 and was placed on patrol in Brent. He was arrested on May 5, 2022, before being suspended from duty and later resigned a week before he was charged on April 28, 2023.
During court proceedings on Wednesday, the defendant only spoke after confirming his name and date of birth.
Justice Clarke said to the defendant, “The offences that you face are matters that I can’t deal with, I have to send them to the Crown Court.”
The defendant was later granted bail on the condition that he does not contact, directly or indirectly the complainant and the case was further adjourned till June 28 at Isleworth Crown Court for trial.
