FCT Police begin investigation into death of heavily pregnant woman
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an investigation into a suspected case of culpable homicide following the death of a heavily pregnant woman, identified as Alice, after an alleged physical confrontation with another woman in Abuja.
According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred on May 31 and involved a dispute between the deceased and a woman identified as Grace Kasimu. Authorities said the altercation reportedly resulted in serious complications for Alice, who later began experiencing severe bleeding.
Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that the pregnant woman was immediately rushed to Wuse General Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Despite efforts by healthcare personnel to save her life, she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, stated that the suspect, Grace Kasimu, has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

Adeh said detectives have commenced a full investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any criminal liability exists in connection with the woman’s death.
She further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive probe and any further action deemed necessary.
The police spokesperson assured members of the public that a thorough and impartial investigation would be conducted to uncover the facts of the case and ensure justice is served.
The tragic incident has drawn attention due to the death of the expectant mother, with authorities expected to rely on medical reports, witness statements, and other evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability in all criminal cases.
