FEC approves Group Life Insurance scheme for Federal workers
The Federal Executive Council, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, has approved a renewed group life insurance scheme covering top government officials, civil servants, and paramilitary agencies for the 2025/2026 policy year.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a group life insurance scheme for federal government officials, civil servants, and selected federal-level workers.
The approval was granted during the FEC meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja.
Briefing State House correspondents after the meeting, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, stated that the scheme covers top-tier officials including the President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, ministers, permanent secretaries, and employees of federal ministries and treasury-funded agencies.
The insurance scheme also extends to paramilitary agencies such as the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
“The scheme underscores the importance that President Bola Tinubu’s administration places on the welfare of staff, specifically the welfare of federal public servants,” Walson-Jack said.

She explained that the Group Life Insurance Scheme is designed such that the Federal Government takes out a life policy on each public servant.
In the event of a worker’s death, the next of kin receives a financial benefit to ease the burden on the deceased’s family.
The insurance is an annual policy, and the approval granted on Monday covers the 2025/2026 policy year.
It will commence from the date of premium payment to the 17 selected underwriters, in line with the “no premium, no cover” policy. The scheme will expire at the end of 2026.
Walson-Jack noted that many public servants are unaware of the policy. “We plan to conduct a sensitization campaign soon to raise awareness,” she added.
