Federal High Court in Lagos launches online portal for Affidavits
During a visit to the Federal High Court in Lagos, a reporter witnessed firsthand the ease of using the new online portal. After creating an account and selecting the desired affidavit, the user was guided through a simple form-filling process.
The Federal High Court (FHC) in Lagos has taken a step towards digitalization by launching an online portal for the public to procure affidavits.
This innovative move, introduced by Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho, brings the court in line with global best practices in the digital age.
Previously, obtaining affidavits required physically visiting the court.
Now, with the new portal (accessible at portal.fhc.gov.ng), the process is streamlined and convenient for the public.
According to Mr. Agwu Charles, head of the court’s new ICT department, the portal allows users to obtain for various purposes such as loss of items, age declaration, and change of name.
Users simply need to log in to the portal and follow the instructions provided.
However, it’s important to note that currently, the portal only processes affidavits unrelated to ongoing court cases.

Affidavits filed in support of a case still require manual processing due to their specific nature.
Deputy Chief Registrar Mr. Godwin Long emphasized the convenience of the new system.
“People no longer need to be physically present at the court to obtain these types of affidavits,” he said.
This online portal is a significant step forward for the FHC in Lagos, making the process of obtaining affidavits more efficient and accessible for the public.
