FG files fresh charges against Emefiele
The Federal Government on Tuesday applied to withdraw the “illegal possession of firearms” suit filed against the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) , Godwin Emefiele, at the Federal High Court, Lagos.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mohammed Abubakar, in a verbal application, told the presiding Judge, Justice Nicholas Oweibo, that result of further investigations into the case made it necessary for the FG to apply for the withdrawal of the initial charges and file fresh ones.
Counsel to Emefiele, Joseph Daudu SAN, had challenged the application, arguing that the federal government must first repent from disobedience of the court’s order granting Emefiele bail, before its application could be taken.

Justice Oweibo, thereafter, adjourned hearing to Thursday, for judgement on the application.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in a media interaction after the court sitting, disclosed that the federal government has filed fresh 20-count charges at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court against Emefiele.
According to the DPP, one of the counts, he said, accused Emefiele of “conferring unlawful advantages”.
