FG v Twitter: Ban to be lifted in days as Twitter bows
After more than two months of suspension, Twitter may be restored to Nigeria as negotiations wrap up in matters of days or weeks.
Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed made this know after the Wednesday Federal Executive Meeting V.P Yemi Osinbajo presided over.
Mohammed said some of the conditions given the platform—paying taxes, setting up an office, and others—have been met to some extent.
In the area of a Nigerian office, even though Twitter has agreed to the condition, it is however maintaining the earliest it can establish it is 2022.
Lai added the Federal Government’s committee negotiating with Twitter will meet on the agreement soon to make recommendations.
There have been reports Nigeria has lost trillions since the temporary suspension occasion by what the federal government termed as Twitter double standards.
The western worlds nd local NGOs have accused Nigeria of stifling democracy and depriving Nigeria of their fundamental rights.
SERAP ad its lawyer Femi Falana went as far as the ECOWAS court to challenge the decision.
The case has been adjourned many times as the federal government insist Twitter is a business, and must be subject to local laws if it must operate in Nigeria.
