FIFA World Cup: Nigeria thump New Zealand, await Chile
Nigeria on Friday afternoon thumped New Zealand 4-0 in the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup to register their first win after falling 2-1 on Tuesday to Germany in their opening Group B game to get their aspiration back on track.
The Nigeria’s Flamingos were able to get their campaign back on track following their comfortable victory against the Young Football Ferns of New Zealand in their second Group B game on Friday.
The Nigeria side who were convincing throughout the entire duration of the match scored two goals at each half with first-half goals from Amina Bello and Miracle Usani and thereafter two second-half strikes from Taiwo Afolabi and Etim Edidiong were enough to earn them a well-deserved victory.
The Bankole Olowookere tutored side took a deserving lead on the 16th minute when Bello headed home a cross from Tumininu Adeshina.
And Usani doubled the lead in the 34th minute to see the Flamingos go into the break 2-0 up.
Afolabi had gone ahead to add the third goal with 15 minutes left and with substitute Edidiong registering the fourth goal in the 90th minute to complete the rout.
Meanwhile, the Flamingos will hope to boost their chances of qualifying from the Group by picking up another three points when they face Chile in their final group game on Monday, October 17, 2022.
