Former U.S. President Joe Biden diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer

Former President of the United States, Joe Biden, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, his personal office confirmed in an official statement released on Monday.

According to the statement, Biden, who concluded his presidency in January, underwent medical evaluation last week following persistent urinary symptoms. Physicians discovered a prostate nodule, prompting further tests.

“On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” the statement read, noting that the condition represents one of the more severe and fast-growing forms of the disease.

Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Biden’s doctors indicated that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, a factor that improves the likelihood of treatment responsiveness. “This allows for effective management,” the statement added.

The former president and his family are currently consulting with his medical team to determine the most appropriate course of treatment.

Medical experts say a Gleason score of 9 signifies highly abnormal cells with a strong tendency to grow and spread quickly.

According to Cancer Research UK, this score places the patient in the highest risk category for prostate cancer progression.

Biden, 82, served as the 46th President of the United States, completing his term in January. Messages of support have begun pouring in from political figures across party lines and from global leaders, wishing him strength as he begins his treatment journey.
