Four corpses recovered in suspected herdsmen attack in Delta
FOUR persons have been confirmed dead in what locals described as a renewed attack by suspected armed herdsmen in the Delta State University community of Abraka, Ethiope East local government area of Delta State.
Fulani herdsman with gun One of the victims, identified as Kennedy Ukuanovwe according to sources from the community, was killed on Tuesday along the Benin-Abraka road while returning home from his farm located a few kilometers from where his lifeless body was discovered.
Though the identities of the other three victims could not be ascertained as at press time, their lifeless bodies were also discovered along the same Benin-Abraka road on Wednesday morning.
The incidents is coming just as five other family members Wednesday, raised alarm that some of their loved ones who had gone to the farm the previous day, failed to return home, raising fears that they might have also been killed in similar manner in their respective farms.
Speaking on the incident, a relative to the late Kennedy Ukuanovwe, Prince Godstime Ukuanovwe, described the incident as painful and a great loss to the family, saying, “Apart from these confirmed four deaths, two other bodies have also been discovered inside the bush, though the corpses are yet to be retrieved from the bush.”
Confirming the incidents, a member of the Abraka vigilante who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the corpses were discovered with bullet wounds and matchet cuts adding that the remains have since been deposited at the mortuary.
Also speaking, chairman, Urhuoka Vigilante outfit, Godday Agoh, said the way and manner the victims were killed, was in resemblance with previous attacks by herdsmen noting that none of their valuable such as mobile phones and monies were taken away.
