Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto) has announced the arrival of a team of medical experts from the International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development (IORWD), in Nigeria on Oct. 8, to conduct free open heart surgeries in Sokoto.
Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant to Wamakko on New Media, quoted the senator as saying this in a statement he issued in Abuja, on Wednesday, while identifying the organization as a division of the Muslim World League, based in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
The statement said that the 24-man team consists of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Theatre Nurses, Intensive Care Doctors and Nurses, as well as Anaesthesiologists and Anaesthetic Nurses, among others, who are of different nationalities, including Saudis, Filipinos, Polish, Malaysians, Egyptians and Syrians.
“The team will arrive Nigeria on Oct. 8 and head to Sokoto same day to commence the free open heart surgery programme.
” This invaluable gesture was facilitated by Sen. Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North Senatorial District, and a former governor of the state”, the statement added.
IORWD is also a member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC), according to the statement.
