Amid growing political tensions in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has acknowledged that some of his supporters are losing faith in the ongoing struggle for control of the state.

However, he reassured them that his administration would emerge stronger and more resilient.

Governor Fubara made this declaration on Monday during the inauguration of the Palace of Nyeweali Akpor Kingdom, along with a magnificent residential complex for the King, Eze Levi Amos Oriebe.

The project, fully funded and furnished by his administration, was commissioned in Ozuoba, within the Obi/Akpor Local Government Area.

Addressing the audience at the event, Governor Fubara condemned those seeking to disrupt governance by exacerbating political hostilities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace and warned against lawlessness.

“I want to say to our teeming supporters: I know some of you have high spirits, while others are discouraged. But I assure you of one important fact—God does not start a thing and end it halfway.

“No matter the situation today, I assure you that we will come up again, stronger and better. Continue to follow my footsteps, and that remains the path of peace. We need peace because if anything happens, we are the greatest losers,” the governor declared.

Governor Fubara emphasized that his administration’s priority remains the overall well-being of Rivers State and its citizens. While he condemned acts of violence and lawlessness, he firmly stated that his government would never support injustice or evil.

Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to delivering people-centered projects despite the political climate. He assured that his administration would not waver in its mission to implement impactful and transformative governance.

“Our projects and services will continue to be those that touch the hearts, souls, and spirits of our people. Regardless of the challenges, we will not renege on our promise to the people of Rivers State,” he stated.

The governor described the completion of the Akpor Kingdom Palace as a historic milestone, marking the first time in over 200 years that the kingdom had a befitting royal residence.

Reflecting on the project’s origin, Governor Fubara recalled that during the flag-off of the Okania-Ogbogoro Road reconstruction 10 months ago, he had responded to the community’s request for a palace. The project was awarded six months ago and has now been successfully completed.

“I was deeply moved when the Royal Father mentioned that for over 200 years, the Akpor Kingdom had functioned without a palace. But God does not make mistakes. Perhaps He left this task for our administration to fulfill, so we will forever be a part of history in Akpor Kingdom,” Fubara said.

The governor further announced that his administration had not only built the palace but also provided a private residence for the Nyeweali of Akpor.

“The palace belongs to the kingdom, but we also considered the future. Once the reigning monarch leaves office or answers the call of nature, his family should not be left stranded. That is why we provided him with a separate, private residence so he can continue to enjoy the comfort he is experiencing now,” Fubara explained.

During the inauguration, Eze Oha Apara IV, Paramount Ruler of Apara Kingdom and Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, lauded Governor Fubara’s leadership.

He highlighted the importance of traditional institutions and governance working in harmony.

Eze Worlu-Wodo noted that a few months ago, his own kingdom had benefitted from the Fubara administration through the construction of a magnificent palace. He emphasized that traditional rulers play a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability within their communities.

“My friend and colleague from Calabar once said that respect for traditional rulers and elders is a reflection of good upbringing. Our governor has demonstrated that he possesses such values,” he remarked.

Governor Fubara expressed his gratitude to the people of Akpor for bestowing upon him the chieftaincy title of “Eze Omenma 1 of Akpor Kingdom.”

He assured them of his unwavering support and reaffirmed that the people of Obio/Akpor hold a strategic place in his administration.
