Gunmen kill abducted Oyo teacher as community demands rescue of remaining victims
Tragedy has struck Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following reports that one of the teachers abducted by gunmen, Michael Oyedokun, has been killed.
Oyedokun was among several staff and students kidnapped when armed men invaded the school on Friday, May 15. The attackers reportedly stormed the premises during school hours, abducting the principal, teachers, and a number of students before fleeing to an unknown destination.
The incident occurred weeks after a failed kidnap attempt along the Ibadan-Ijebu Road, which left one traveler dead, heightening anxiety over the worsening security situation in parts of the state.
A disturbing video released by the kidnappers on Sunday, May 17, 2026, allegedly showed the killing of Oyedokun. The footage, which has circulated widely, has sparked outrage and deepened fears about the fate of the remaining captives.

Residents of Ahoro-Esinele and surrounding communities have been thrown into mourning, with many describing the development as heartbreaking and avoidable. Families of the victims and community leaders have intensified calls on security agencies and the Oyo State Government to step up efforts to rescue those still in captivity.
Community members expressed concern that the attackers appear emboldened, warning that urgent and decisive action is needed to prevent further loss of life. They urged both state and federal authorities to deploy additional security resources to secure the safe return of the remaining hostages.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Oyo State Government have yet to issue an official statement confirming the killing or providing updates on ongoing rescue operations.
The incident has once again spotlighted the persistent insecurity affecting schools and rural communities across Nigeria, with stakeholders calling for strengthened surveillance, intelligence gathering, and rapid-response mechanisms to protect lives and property.
