How Umo Eno regained PDP gov ticket in Akwa Ibom
Sustaining his legal tussle, Umo Eno, at last, regained his governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Court of Appeal Abuja. The appeal court had nullified the judgement of a Federal High Court in Abuja on January 20, 2023, which declared Micheal Enyong the nominated governorship candidate of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State, and cancelled the nomination of Umo Eno at the party’s congress.
The presiding Judge of the Appeal Court, Justice Hamma Barka, had overturned the judgment of the Federal High Court, stating that it was made in errors.
The Judge declared that the matter of statutory delegates who vote at the primary election is an internal affair of the party, stating that the high court ought not to interfere with the internal affair of the party.
The Judge maintained that only the National Working Committee (NWC) of a political party has the power to conduct primary elections for the purpose of nominating candidates for elections.
Justice Barka, therefore, granted the appeal of the PDP and vacated all orders of the Federal High Court against Imo Eno; and ordered Michael Enyong to pay N1 million litigation cost to Eno.
