HURIWA blasts Tinubu, military chiefs for lack of strategy in tackling insecurity, banditry
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has issued a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the current military leadership, accusing them of failing to implement an effective strategy to combat terrorism and banditry in Nigeria.
Expressing frustration over recent events in Zamfara and Niger states, where terrorists have not only terrorized communities but also captured military hardware, HURIWA condemned the government’s approach as inadequate.
The group particularly criticized President Tinubu’s decision to send a delegation, including the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, to Sokoto, dismissing it as political posturing without a clear plan.

In a sharply-worded statement, HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, called out the administration for its inability to present a winning strategy, citing incompetence and the politicization of military appointments as key issues.
The group also highlighted the failures of Nigeria’s intelligence community in preventing and intercepting terrorist activities, calling for a complete overhaul of military leadership and a merit-based approach to appointments.
HURIWA warned that without decisive leadership and a coherent strategy, Nigeria risks further chaos, urging the President to prioritize the security and well-being of citizens.
The organization emphasized the need for accountability and competent leadership to restore peace and security in the country.
