IBB kicks as police declares his aide wanted
For publishing statement containing falsehood and injurious contents on behalf of his boss, Kassim Afegbua, the media aide to former President Ibrahim Badamosi Bababgida has been declared wanted by the Nigeria Police.
Police spokesperson Jimoh Moshood said Inspector-General Ibrahim Idris ordered the Afegbua’s arrest.
“He is therefore declared wanted by the NPF and should report at the nearest police station,” Moshood said Monday night.
Reports that the police was going to declare Afegbua wanted initially filtered out of the presidency Sunday night.
It, however, appears Babangida will not abandon his man.
He has told the ThisDay he stands by whatever Afegbua wrote.
Afegbua, on Sunday night, issued a statement he signed on behalf of Babangida who reportedly criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and his “analogue” leadership, asking him to put national interest before his personal interest in 2019.
Babangida’s statement came weeks after former President Olusegun Obasanjo hit Buhari in a 13-page open letter, advising him to honourably dismount the horse in 2019.
But Babangida, in another statement he personally signed, debunked the initial statement, describing it as the personal view of the writer.
Afegbua, however, claimed the second statement originated from the Babangidas sympathetic to Buhari.
And Aso Rock has yet to respond to either of the statements.
