Ighodalo takes APC chairman Jarret Tenebe to court over allegations of Theft
Asue Ighodalo, PDP’s candidate in the upcoming Edo Governorship election, has taken legal action against APC Chairman Jarret Tenebe over allegations of stealing billions, demanding an apology and retraction of defamatory statements.
Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21, 2024, Edo Governorship election, has filed a lawsuit against Jarret Tenebe, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over serious allegations of financial theft.
In a formal letter issued by Banwo and Ighodalo, the legal representatives of Ighodalo, they demanded an immediate public apology and other remedial actions from Tenebe, threatening to escalate the matter into a lawsuit if their demands were not met.
The controversy erupted when Tenebe, while attempting to defend Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo’s struggle to pronounce figures during a budget presentation, accused Ighodalo of stealing billions of naira.
Tenebe suggested that the governor’s difficulty with numbers was a result of his innocence, in contrast to Ighodalo, whom he alleged had stolen large sums of money.
Ighodalo has vehemently denied the allegations, stating that the public dissemination of these false claims has caused him significant distress and damage to his reputation.

In response, he has demanded that Tenebe provide a video retraction, which should be distributed through all media outlets that carried the initial defamatory statements.
Furthermore, Ighodalo is seeking a personal apology letter from Tenebe, addressed to him and signed by the APC chairman.
The case has now attracted significant public attention, with many calling for accountability and caution in the political discourse ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election.
