Impeachment: Senate meets service chiefs over worsening insecurity
The Leadership of the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday afternoon convened an emergency meeting with the service chiefs over worsening insecurity in the country for which the federal lawmakers have threatened to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.
The meeting holding at the time of this report, is being attended by the Chief of Defense Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval staff, Chief of Air Staff, DG DSS and a representative of the National Security Adviser, and is being held behind close door.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan at the meeting stated that the security challenges in the country have lingered for long, noting that the Senate expected that the situation would have been better.
He emphasized that the situation is frightening, saying that there is nowhere to hide or go. Lawan said that it is dire at this time to come up with an effective solution, as the crisis is dislocating where the head of government is situated.
The Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, assured that a lot is being done to improve security. He affirmed that the troops are still committed to the cause, saying that no one is leaving any stone unturned in addressing the problem
