Insecurity: Uzodimma disagrees with Matawalle on arming civilians for self defence

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo Stat the State House, Abuja, disagreed with Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State on the order to arm citizens for self defence in the midst of the lingering insecurity and the rampage of bandits in the state.

has assured the residents of the state that there will be no need to arm themselves against gunmen terrorizing the state.

Uzodinma after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday, expressed that the security crisis in Imo State is yet to degenerate to the level of directing residents of the state to acquire guns to defend themselves.

Governor Uzodinma had on Sunday issued 10 days ultimatum, ordering gunmen to vacate the forests in Imo State and surrender their arms to traditional rulers in their domains to embrace amnesty, threatening that failure to comply with his order within the ultimatum period, security operatives will bombard the forests in Imo State.

Uzodimma also requested the hosting of the 2022 Nigerian Army Day in Imo, for which he was at the State house, Abuja, to secure the approval of President Buhari, noting that the president has approved the hosting of the Army day in Imo.

The Imo Governor expressed confidence in the capacity of the country’s security agencies to end the incessant killings by gunmen in Imo State.

Uzodinma emphasized that his administration has firm control of the security agencies in Imo, affirming that the situation in Imo State has greatly improved.
