Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has emerged as the leading candidate to become Germany’s next head coach amid widespread reports that the German Football Association (DFB) is considering the future of Julian Nagelsmann following the national team’s shock exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to multiple reports in the German and international media, the DFB is assessing Nagelsmann’s position after Germany’s unexpected Round of 32 elimination to Paraguay. While no official announcement has been made regarding his dismissal, Klopp is widely regarded as the frontrunner should the federation decide to make a managerial change.

Nagelsmann has reportedly indicated his desire to remain in charge despite growing pressure following Germany’s disappointing World Cup campaign. The DFB is expected to hold internal discussions before reaching a decision on the 38-year-old’s future.

Klopp, who stepped down as Liverpool manager in 2024 and currently serves as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, has long been linked with the Germany national team job. The 59-year-old has previously been viewed as one of the German Football Association’s preferred candidates for the role.

Speaking after Germany’s World Cup exit, Klopp declined to comment extensively on the speculation surrounding his future, saying it was not the appropriate time to discuss the matter.

Germany’s early elimination has sparked widespread criticism from former players, pundits and supporters, intensifying calls for changes within the national team setup. However, the DFB has yet to confirm whether Nagelsmann will remain in charge or whether a replacement will be appointed.
